What to expect working as an Investigative Auditor

Working as an Investigative Auditor involves gathering evidence related to complaints of fraud and abuse that impact government entities. Investigative auditors aim to detect and prevent the misappropriation of public assets and minimize the risk of future fraud.

This position requires travel throughout Louisiana to carry out these duties effectively. By investigating these complaints and taking appropriate action, the individual in this role can help ensure that government entities in Louisiana operate with integrity and that taxpayer funds are used appropriately.

Investigative Audit Services Position Types

LLA requires applicants to have particular levels of education, experience, and certifications in order to qualify for a career in Investigative Audit Services.

Staff Auditor Levels
Staff Auditor I
Qualifications
  • Must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university (in any major)
  • Must meet the eligibility requirements to take the Certified Public Accountant examination in Louisiana
  • Possess certification as a CPA; or,
  • Possess an advanced degree from an accredited college or university with at least 15 semester hours of accounting
OR
Staff Auditor II
Qualifications
  • Must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university (in any major)
  • Must meet the eligibility requirements to take the Certified Public Accountant examination in Louisiana
  • Must have one year of professional level experience equivalent to a Staff Auditor I
  • Possess certification as a CPA; or,
  • Possess an advanced degree from an accredited college or university with at least 15 semester hours of accounting
OR
Senior Auditor Levels
Senior Auditor I
Qualifications
  • Meet minimum requirements to be a Louisiana Certified Public Accountant
  • Possess an advanced degree from an accredited college or university with at least 15 semester hours of accounting and Two years of professional level experience in investigative auditing, including one year at a level equivalent to an Investigative Staff Auditor II
OR
Senior Auditor II
Qualifications
  • Meet minimum requirements to be a Louisiana Certified Public Accountant
  • Possess an advanced degree from an accredited college or university with at least 15 semester hours of accounting and three years of professional level experience in investigative auditing, including one year at a level equivalent to an Investigative Senior Auditor I
